Electronic Fetal Monitoring

Trinity Health System and Mount Carmel have instituted an initiative to ensure that all members of the medical team caring for a patient in labor have been credentialed by the National Certification Corporation (NCC) to assure standardization and best practices of EFM interpretation. Physicians who participate in the delivery process at any Mount Carmel hospital will be required to take this standardized test given by NCC no later than December 31, 2011. In May, two CME education sessions were held in preparation for certification testing. Throughout the month of May, thirteen sessions of the test were administered on-site at various Mount Carmel facilities. A total of 337 physicians, midwives, nursing staff, and OB and Family Practice residents were able to sit for the exam.

The physician staff had a 95% success rate in passing the exam. Mount Carmel Health Partner physicians who pass the exam this year are eligible for an incentive payment. The amount of the reward is based on the date of certification:

  • If certified by July 31, 2011 the award is $1,000
  • If certified between August 1 – Sept. 30, 2011 the award is $750
  • If certified between Oct. 1, 2011 and Dec. 31, 2011 the award is $500

EFM Certification continues as we prepare for another round of testing in November. If you have questions regarding your registration and testing options, please contact Kathy Grauer at 614-546-4257 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .
